Out of action Sania jumps two notches to 35 in latest rankings
New Delhi, May 15: Despite staying away from the court, Sania Mirza continues to benefit from her peers' poor form and the Hyderabadi teenager jumped two rungs to 35 in the latest WTA Singles Rankings.
Sania, who ignored doctor's advice and featured in India's Fed Cup campaign in Seoul, is planning to hit the court again during the French Open and today's rankings place her at 35 with 516.75 ranking points.
Sania had reached a career-high rankings of 31 on October 10 last year.
India's star Fed Cupper Shikha Uberoi slipped one rung to 179 and the US-based player has 155 ranking points in her kitty.
Among others, Ankita Bhambri (60.25) moved three places to 332, while another Fed Cupper Isha Lakhani (51.50) was static at 363.
Veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi (32.75) is 446, five rungs ahead of Sanaa Bhambri (32.25), according to information received here today.
In the top 10, Russian Nadia Petrova -- who beat Justine Henin-Hardenne to clinch the German Open yesterday -- overtook glamorous compatriot Maria Sharapova at number three, while Henin-Hardenne leapfrogged Lindsay Davenport and Mary Pierce to the fifth spot.
