New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The NDA today decided to oppose the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill 2006 in its present form because it sought to destroy the 'soul' of Article 102 of the Constitution by preparing long list of offices to be exempted from the purview of offices of profit.

A decision to this effect was taken by the leaders of the NDA parties at the residence of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayeee.

''One look at the list of offices to be exempted would easily show which MP was to be benefited with retrospective effect,'' BJP leader Sushma Swaraj told newspersons after the meeting. The NDA leaders unanimously decided to oppose the Bill when it will come up in Lok Sabha tomorrow and Rajya Sabha, the day after tomorrow.

The Opposition, she said had asked the government to end ambiguity surrounding the Bill and Article 102 of the Constitution.

''We had told them that the spirit of this provision should not be diluted but the Bill circulated is not just diluting but destroying the very soul. This is not acceptable for us and we will oppose tooth and nail,'' he said.

Ms Swaraj also clarified that although the government had asked the BJP, it had not given any list of institution for inclusion.

The meeting among others was attended by NDA Convenor George Feranandes, Leader of Opposition L K Advani, J D (U) President Sharad Yadav and B J Panda of the BJD.

Mr Anant Geete of the Shiv Sena said his party has also decided to raise the issue of wheat import scandal at a time when the farmers were commiting suicides, price rise of essential commodities and FDI in retail sector.

It would also demand removal of Mr Navin Chawla as Election Commissioner during the Parliament session.
