Baripada, May 14(UNI) The women Self help groups(SHG) in the tribal -dominated Mayurbhanj district are set to enter a new area of trading of selling LPG cylinders in rural areas.

A scheme in this regard has been mooted by the Orissa Rural Development and Marketing Society(ORMAS) in collaboration with the petroleum companies like HPCL, BPCL and IOC.

The scheme official sources said would have three-fold advantages such as - pave the path for hastening rural prosperity, reduce rural people's dependence on conventional fuelwood energy and ensure conservation of natural forest from where people draw their fuelwood requirements.

As per the scheme, the district units of the ORMAS, called the District Supply and Marketing Society(DSMS) would be providing the dealership of the LPG cylinders to the selected SHGs who would open an ''extension counter'' to sell the LPG cylinders.

The profit earned from sale of LPG cylinders through the 'extension counters' would go to the members of the SHGs managing such counters providing a new avenues for their economic empowerment through trading.

According to Mayurbhanj DSMS Chief Executive Swapan Goswami, at least 26 SHGs ,one each in twentysix blocks of Mayurbhanj would be shortlisted under Swarna Jayanti Swarajgar Yojana(SGSY) to be brought within the ambit of the scheme in course of time.

But to start with, three SHGs identified as Santoshi Maa SHG at Tulasichaura (Betnoti), Maa Mangala SHG at Talasahi (Chitrada) and Maa Barahi SHG at Barsahi would soon operate from their respective extension counters and ensure sale of LPG cylinders in rural areas To make the scheme, a total success, the DSMS has started organising training on documentation, safety norms, sales, marketing skills and the skill to liaison to the SHGs members identified for the purpose.
