Agra to be made tourism hot-spot for foreigners

Agra, May 14: A slew of steps are on the anvil to make the Taj City a more attractive tourism destination for foreign backpackers.

According to tourism department sources here, modern casinos and auditoriums are being planned and moves already afoot to acquire land for the purpose.

A 'night bazaar' would be set up at Sadar with the agreement of the Cantonment Board.

Sources claim the opening up of casinos would give a major boost to tourism and bring a windfall to hotels.

To tide over power crisis for night-centric tourism, gas-based power stations would be commissioned in Agra.

Meanwhile, a proposal had also been forwarded to the ASI for a light-and-sound programme at Fatehpur Sikri. As an added attraction, a laser-show is being planned at the Shahjahan Garden.

Similarly, the walls of Agra Fort facing Yamuna river would be illuminated.

The majestic Taj Mahal would be also be bathed in artificial lights to attract tourist, the proposal of which has already been sent to the Chief Minister, sources added.
