Chandigarh, May 14 (UNI) The Abhey Chautala faction of the Haryana Olympic Association (HOA) today criticised the Haryana government for not releasing any grant to the state sports associations and the HOA for conducting the district, state, national and international tournaments and sending players for recognized national sports meets.

''The State sports associations are starved of funds after the Congress Government came into power under the Chief Ministership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda,'' Mr Abhey Chautala said while talking to media persons after a meeting of a faction of the HOA headed by him. The rival faction is headed by Congress MP Naveen Jindal.

Due to paucity of funds, the sports associations are not able to conduct coaching camp prior to sending their teams for the nationals/international meets,he said. It would certainly affect the performance of the state players, especially in case of the team championships,he added.

However, the state sports associations were able to generate their funds so far for sending their teams for the Nationals and other events, he explained.

Criticising the functioning of the state government on the sports front, Mr Chautala said that the government has so not presented Bhim awards. The government has stopped giving grants to the sports associations for running their activities, he claimed.

Mr Hooda did announce to give cash awards to the Haryana players who brought laurels to the country and the state by winning medals in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games this year but so far nothing had been done to fulfill this promise,he claimed.

Regarding hosting of the 21st State Games, Mr Chautala said the games would be held in September before the Guwhati National Games from October 5 to 14. The venue to the state games will be announced soon,he added.
