Visva-Bharti VC moots for common admission tests
Santiniketan, May 13: Stressing on the need to attract the best students, Visva-Bharti Vice-Chancellor Prof Sujit Kumar Basu today mooted a proposal to hold common entrance tests to get admission into the Central universities.
Speaking on the occasion of the university's convocation Prof Basu requested Prof Suahadeo Dhroad, Chairman of University Grants Commission(UGC), to seriously consider the proposal. Prof Dhroad was the Chief Guest of the convocation.
Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi was also present. Eight eminent persons, experts in various fields, were awarded honorary degrees on the occasion.
Pandit Birju Maharaj, actor Soumitra Chatterjee, scientist R A Mashelaar, Japan's Dr Young Seekchoue (Peace) and Dr Dai Sakuikeda (Art), Prof C N R Rao (Scientist), Prof Rabindra Kumar Dasgupta (literature) and M Balamurali Krishna(singer) were conferred the 'Deshikottama', the honorary degrees.
