Two killed, eight injured in road accident in HP

Solan, May 13 (UNI) A woman and her nine-year old son were killed and eight injured, two of them seriously, after the ambulance they were traveling in, rolled down into a gorge at Saproon area of Solan district of Himachal Pradesh today, police said.

The accident occurred after the driver of the vehicle lost control over it and it rolled down into the gorge after crashing into the road railing, killing Manpreet, 42 and her son Amanpreet, nine and injuring eight others.

Police said the ambulance had been requisitioned to take Manpreet's ailing daughter to the hospital, while eight others slightly injured in another accident also boarded the vehicle to reach the hospital.

However, as soon as the ambulance reached Dohari Diwar, the driver lost control over the vehicle, which rolled down into the gorge.

While Manpreet was killed on the spot, her son succumbed to her injuries in the hospital, police said, adding that the remaining injured in the accident have been admitted to Regional Hospital.

Two of the seriously injured, identified as Ajay and Shivpal, have been referred to PGI at Chandigarh.

Solan Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, while announcing an immediate relief of Rs 25,000 each to the next of the kin of the people and Rs 5,000 each to the injured people.

Police said a case under sections 279, 337 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code had been registered and investigations are on.
