Symposium on cadaver kidney transplant on May 14

Ahmedabad, May 13 (UNI) To promote and accept the thought of donating the kidneys of the cadaver patients by their families, the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research on Transplantation (IKDRT) has organised a half-day symposium called 'Gujarat Cadaver Transplantions Programme' at its campus here tomorrow.

Addressing mediapersons here yesterd, IKDRT Director Dr H L Trivedi said, ''Every year over 6,000 persons are losing their lives in nearly 4,000 fatal road accidents occuring in Gujarat. At the same time, every year over 1,00,000 new patients are dying because of kidney failure in the state. Thus to meet the gap between demand-supply of kidneys, the cadaver patients could be a blessing as one cadaver can give a new lease of life to two kidney patients.'' The symposium will be inaugurated by Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma, he informed.

During the programme, some of the family members of cavaders will be honoured by Mr Sharma, Dr Trivedi added.
