Spread Buddha's message for restoring peace: Marde

Itanagar, May 13 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh today joined rest of the world in celebrating the 2550th Buddha Jayanti with various religious and cultural programmes throughout the state.

The main function was celebrated at Siddhartha Hall here with Deputy Speaker of state legislative Assembly Takar Marde occasion chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Marde stressed on spreading the preachings of Lord Buddha for restoring peace in the world.

Highlighting the philosophy of Buddhism, he exhorted the people to love and respect all religions and to work for the betterment of the society. ''Let us bridge ourselves without discriminating caste, creed and religion'', he added.

Referring to the uniqueness of the Buddhism religion, Higher and Technical Education Director Joram Begi said that Buddhism had contributed a lot for Arunachal as well as the country as a whole.

Calling for spreading the teachings of Buddha throughout the state, Mr Begi said it would help all tribes to be acquainted with the philosophy of Buddhism and help in development of the state.

State tourism secretary Y D Thongchi and Rev Dhammakitti Bhikhu, head priest of Kherem Buddhist Temple highlighted the various facets of Buddhism religion.

A religious procession was also organised to mark the occasion.
