Regional unity for development:Mahanta

Guwahati, May 13 (UNI) Asom Gana Parishad Progressive (AGP-P) president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has stressed the need of unity among the regional political parties in the state for all round development of Asom.

Mr Mahanta said ''development of Asom was possible by the regional parties only'' and said the opposition this time have failed to unite and oust the ruling Congress party from coming back to power.

He said his party had tried its best to unite the opposition parties to defeat the Congress in the election, but the others failed to respond positively. '' The opposition political parties have failed to take the advantage of the situation to oust the ruling Congress government in the election,'' he added.

The Congress has come to power as the opposition failed to utilize the situation and not for the good governance as claimed by some of its leaders, he said.

The former Chief Minister said his party has accepted the peoples verdict and decided to lend support to the new government led by the Congress for the unity and development of the state.

He said AGP (P) will always work for strengthening the Regional political parties in the state .
