Shillong, May 13: The Meghalaya government has framed draft marriage rules for various religious communities in the state in response to the recent Supreme Court ruling for compulsory registration of marriage.

The government has solicited views from the public on the draft rules framed, keeping in view the necessity to make marriage registration compulsory, said an official statement.

The draft rules, already published in the Meghalaya Gazette, have been framed in conformity with the Hindu Marriage Act 1955, the Indian Christian Marriage Act 1872, the Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act 1935 and the Special Marriage Act 1954.

The draft rules have been published in the official state portal 'www.meghalaya.nic.in' for the public. They can also view the rules at the offices of the Deputy Commissioners and the Civil Sub-Divisional offices.
