Legislators urge Sonia to name CLP leader
Pondicherry, May 13: A meeting of the elected Congress legislators held under the Chairmanship of AICC treasurer Motilal Vora today urged the party president Sonia Gandhi to announce the name of the Congress Legislature Party(CLP) leader in the Union Territory.
Talking to newspersons here after the meeting, Mr Vora said that he, along with AICC General Secretary B K Hariprasad, Secretary Sudhakar Reddy and PCC President P Shanmugham, had heard the views and choice of the legislators, which was conveyed to Mrs Gandhi, who will announce the name.
Mr Vora said that they will call on the Lt Governor today and stake claim to form a Congress Government with the unconditional outside support by the alliance partners. The letter of support had already been received from the DMK, PMK and CPI, he added.
Asked whom the Lt Governor will invite to form the Government in the absence of the announcement of the CLP leader, Mr Vora said that the invitation would be for the Congress party, following which the CLP leader would be decided.
When insisted upon to give the name of the CLP leader, Mr Vora said that the the opinion of the legislators was conveyed to Mrs Gandhi and it need to be conveyed to the leaders of the alliance parties, after which it would be announced.
Talking to newspersons here, Congress legislators said they have selected Mr Rangasamy as the CLP leader.
