Friendly contest in Municipal elections
Imphal, May 13: The Congress and the Communist Party of India (CPI), both constituents of the ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur have decided to go for a friendly contest in the ensuing Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) elections.
Elections for 27 wards of IMC will be held on May 31 next. Both, the Congress and the CPI have announced the names of its candidates.
Party leaders said it would not affect the alliance, as both the parties had put up their candidates during the Lok Sabha elections earlier.
The National Congress Party has also announced the list of its candidates. The political parties are concentrating on the elections as the general assembly elections are expected to be held later this year.
Election campaigning has already started and the code of conduct for political parties and candidates have been announced. Flag hoisting of the candidates were also held today.
