4 held for selling fake jewellery

Chennai, May 13 (UNI) City police has arrested four persons, including two Sri Lankan women, for allegedly attempting to sell fake gold ornaments at a jewellery shop in Vadapalani area of the city.

Police identified the suspects as Ms Vyjyanthimala (57), her son Kumaresan, sister Chitra (53) and Rajkumar (40).

All of them went to the shop yesterday and handed over 200 gms of gold jewellery to the shop owner saying they wanted to exchange it with new ornaments.

Suspecting that something was amiss, the jeweller examined the ornaments and found them to be fake.

The accused later confessed to their crime.
