101th birth anniversary of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed observed

New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) A prayer meeting was held on the 101th birth anniversary of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed here today.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi at his mazar behind Jama Masjid on Parliament Street.

Former Madhya Pradesh Governor Shafi Qureshi was among others present on the occasion.

Moulana Peerzada Syed Shabbir Naqshbandi, a close associate of the former President, led a prayer for national unity, integrity, international peace and universal brotherhood.

Mr Ahmed was President of India from 1974-77.
