Woman attempts self-immolation dejected at AIADMK's defeat
Chennai, May 12 (UNI) A 45-year-old, mother of three children, attempted self-immolation in the early hours of today, over the AIADMK's defeat in the May eight polls and the subsequent resignation of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa following the poll debacle.
Police sources said the woman, Vasanthi and her husband Gopal, were staunch supporters of ''Amma''.
After she came to know of the party's defeat at the hustings.
Vasanthi, doused herself with kersone and set herself ablaze around 0200 hrs this morning.
She was admitted to the burns ward in the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.Her condition was stated to be critical.
Police also recovered a note written by Vasanthi stating that she was taking the extreme step unable to bear the loss of AIADMK in the polls.
