Two injured in firing by security forces in north Kashmir
Baramulla, May 12 (UNI) At least two persons were injured when security forces allegedly opened fire to disperse violent demonstrators in north Kashmir today.
Official sources said security forces cordoned off the illages of Kralgund and Achipora, Handwara, in the frontier district of Kupwara today following a tip off that some militants were hiding there.
The demonstrators charged the security forces with excesses during the search operation. They also tried to molest some women, the they alleged.
Later, hundreds of villagers, mostly women, broke the cordon and tried to march towards the main road.
The demonstrators later pelted stones on security forces forcing them to open fire in which two persons were injured. One of the injured Mohammad Maqbool Malla was rushed to Srinagar hospital in a critical condition.
The situation is tense but under control, sources said adding senior police and civil officials had visited the area.
