Shreya Claims Limelight in State Combined Atheletic meet
Pune, May 12 (UNI) National middle distance ace Shreya Vidwans of Thane kept her reputation intact by winning the girls 400 meters run on the opening days today of the four day Maharashtra combined event and under 20 junior FederationCup athletic championship which got underway at the Shiv Chhtrapati Sports City -Balewadi near here.
In absence of any worthwhile competition, Shreya who is presently training in the india camp at Patiala, came off the block and shot into the lead rightaway though Shulbha Bhondve of Pune made a gallant effort to catch up with the leader but in vain. Shreya breezed past the tape clocking 62.1 seconds to capture the gold while Bhondve and Dhanashree Mohite also Pune had to rest content with silver and bronze respectively.
Ramnaresh Yadav of Mumbai Suburban district and Amruta Bhore also of Mumbai Suburban burnt the balewadi track to be the fastest man and women winning the 100 meters sprints respectively.
Yadav made the most of the situations international Deepak Basarkar and national champion Krishna kumar Rane who are presently attending the ongoing Indian camp at Patiala stopped the clock dead at 11 seconds while Kuldip Bhonge and Adswin Shetty of Pune district were placed second and third respectively.
On the other hand Amruta Bhure of Mumbai Suburban over came the resistence of teamate Pooja Patil and Urshali Patil of Mumbai Suburban to win the gold in a time of 12.9 secconds, Pooja and Vrushali claimed the silver and the bronze.
The twin meet was formally inaugurated by former national champion and Shiv Chhtarapati awardee Gurbans Kaur while Maharashtra Amateur Athletic Association(MAAA) Vice-President Advocate Abhay Chhajed was in the chair.
MAAA General secretary Pralhad Sawant speaking on the occasion said that all those atheletes both men and women attending the ongoing training cum coaching camps being held at Trianadpuram, Patiala,Jamshedpur and Delhi will be given direct entry to participate in the the national events .
A record 450 athletes from 22 district units of the MAAA are vying for honours in the three days championship. The meets assumes importance as it forms the basis of selection of the state athletic squad to take part in the national Combined event championship to be held at Delhi and the Junior under 20 Federation Cup athletic championship to be held in Chennai.
