SC dismisses petition against Ahmedabad MCD chairman
New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed the contempt of court petition filed against Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Chairman Anil Mukim.
A bench comprising Mr. Justice S K Sinha and Mr. Justice P K Balasubramaniyan dismissed the petition filed by ''Swash Ravi Mahela Seva Sangh'' and others who were seeking his prosecution for flouting the Supreme Court order passed in 1984 directing the Corporation not to remove 313 vegetable sellers from the sabji mandi vegetable market without providing them alternate sites.
The Corporation had forcibly evicted these vegetable sellers including 213 women in 2005.
The Court dismissed the petition saying that it was an old order and that many of them have already moved out on their own.
