Teargas shell used on Srinagar demonstrators

Srinagar, May 12: Police fired several rounds in the air and burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators in the down town arcas of the city this afternoon, official sources said.

They said that a hundreds of demonstrators, demanding stern action against people involved in the recently exposed sex racket, took to streets at Nowhatta immediately after Friday prayers were over in the historic Jamia masjid.

As the demonstrators, raising anti government and police slogans, were trying to proceed towards main road, police stopped them.

However, the demonstrators refused to disperse and start pelting stones on police.

Police burst teargass shells and resorted to repeated lathicharge which had no affect.

Later, police fired several rounds in the air to disperse them.

The demonstrators were demanding that names of those politicians, police and security personnel and businessmen involved in the sex racket be made public.
