Mulayam demands special package for cleaning rivers in UP
Lucknow, May 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today demanded a special financial package from the centre for cleaning of rivers in the state.
''UP does not want a package for road or education, since if special funds are now given for cleaning of rivers, most of our problems would be ameliorated,'' he added.
Replying to a private member bill moved by BJP's Laxmi Kant Bajpayee in the state assembly, the CM particularly referred to Ganga and said it was unfortunate that the water of the holy river was akin to posion at some places.
''I will write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram seeking financial assistance to set up sewage treatment plants at all the cities, so that clean water flows in the rivers,'' he said.
