Reservation: Members want better deal for women
New Delhi, May 12: Senior Congress member Janardhan Poojary today said in the Rajya Sabha that women need a better deal in society and their number in employment, both in the public and private sector, needs to go up.
Resuming a discussion on the Private Member's Bill on the Reservation of Women in Government Jobs, Mr Poojary said while some of the state governments have made provisions for such a reservation, he was not sure whether such a law at the Centre was sustainable.
He said the number of women in the private and public sector did not exceed 18 per cent, which was quite low and this figure should improve. "Women," he said, "had proved they can become better administrators." He cited example of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who, he said, led the nation with efficient administration.
