Kunhali Marakkar memorial to be dedicated on May 17
Kochi, May 12 (UNI) The Navy has constructed a Kunhali Marakkar Memorial Stupa' at the native place of the valiant fighter in Kozhikode district.
The Stupa' will be dedicated to the nation on May 17 by National Security Advisor M K Naryanan in the presence of naval officials and others, a release, here today said.
Consequent to the visit of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Arun Prakash to the Kunhali Marakkar Museum earlier, it was decided to erect a memorial at the site of the existing museum, in memory of Kunhali Marakkar, who valiantly fought the British.
While the State Government had taken steps to preserve a small house associated with the Kunhali lineage at village Iringal between Payyoli and Vadakara in Kozhikode district and later converted that into a museum, housing artifacts of the Kunhali era.
The Navy, as part of its efforts to enthuse the people to pay greater heed to the maritime legacy, had constructed the Stupa within the precincts of the museum's compound, the release added.
