Karunanidhi to look after many portfolios like Home, IT

Chennai, May 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister designate M Karunanidhi would look after a host of portfolios - Home, Industries, Information Technology, Prohibition, Excise, General Administration, Minorities Welfare, Tamil Culture and Development and Mines and Minerals in the 31-member ministry to be sworn in tomorrow.

DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan, the second in command in the Cabinet would be the state's new Finance Minister, the portfolio, held by Mr Karunanidhi in the previous Ministry. Mr Anbazhagan was in charge of Education in Mr Karunandhi's previous ministries.

While Arcot N Veerasamy will be Electricity and Rural Industries Minister, Mr M K Stalin, who is making his debut in the ministry, will be Local Administration and Rural Development Minister.

Former Local Administration Minister Ko Si Mani will be Minister for Cooperation and Statistics, while former Minister Veerapandi Arumugam will be Minister for Agriculture.

Duraimurugan, another former Minister, had been given back his pet subject of Public Works Minister. He held the same portfolio in the DMK's earlier regime.

While former Speaker P T R Palanivel Rajan will be Hindu Religious and Endowment Minister, Mr K Ponmudi, who was Transport Minister in the previous regime, would be Minister for Higher Education.
