Karunanidhi elected DMK legislature party leader

Chennai, May 12 (UNI) DMK President M Karunanidhi was today unanimously elected as the leader of the newly-elected Legislature party.

At a meeting of party MLAs at 'Anna Arivalayam' here, DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan moved a resolution that ''Kalaignar (Mr Karunanidhi) be elected as the leader of the legislature party and Chief Minister.'' After party Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy seconded it, the 96 MLAs unanimously passed the resolution.

Immediately after the meeting, Mr Karunanidhi drove to the Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form government.

The swearing-in-ceremony is scheduled to take place at Nehru stadium tomorrow.
