Infiltration bid foiled, three militants killed, four nabbed in J

Srinagar, May 12 (UNI) Alert security forces today foiled a major infiltration bid when they killed a heavily armed militant immediately after he crossed over to this side alongwith five others in Poonch sector.

In other militancy incidents across the state, security forces gunned down two militants of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and arrested four Hizbul Mujahideen over ground workers while one surrendered.

An official spokesman said here today that security forces guarding the border noticed a group of seven militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) at Shahpur post in Poonch sector in the early hours.

He said when challenged and asked to surrender, the infiltrators opened fire. The fire was returned and the exchange continued for about half an hour. One body of the infiltrator alongwith three ak rifles were recovered near the site of encounter. However, others managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Troops of 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), on a specific information, cordoned off village Narwani under police station Zainapora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir last night. However, when the troops were about to storm a particular house, they came under heavy fire from militants. Troops also returned the fire, and in the exchange, two LeT militants Abu Saqib, a resident of Pakistan, and Ghulam Ahmad alias Muntazim were killed. Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. One house was also damaged, he said.

He said four HM over ground workers were arrested alongwith one pistol, one magzine and one round at Shopian last night while one ultra surrendered alongwith an AK rifle, three magzines, 90 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and one wireless set at Baramulla.
