Kolkata, May 12 (UNI) Congratulating the ruling Left Front on its massive victory in West Bengal Assembly elections, Indian Chamber of Commerce president K Bangur said this outstanding success reflected the people's confidence in the economic progress, spearheaded by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and his team.

The business fraternity was looking forward to bold policy measures to unleash the next phase of growth in West Bengal, the ICC chief in a statement here today said.

He said the Chamber had carried a special survey of the business fraternity in West Bengal and it was clear that the confidence building measures taken by the Chief Minister had gone a long way in ushering in a new and positive business enviornment in the state.

The business fraternity has a lot of expectations from the new Government,"said Mr.Bangur and emphasised the urgent need to address issues in the infrastructure sector to enable a larger spread of the benefits of economic development.

Focussing on the need to enhance the quality of healthcare and education, the ICC president said the new Government must address itself to these tasks without delay if the momentum of development achieved so far was to be sustained.

Timely implementation of infrastructural projects, focus on knowledge-based industries, a massive thrust to primary education and vocational training are critical areas, Mr Bangur said adding strong measures must also to be taken to avoid illegal strikes and bandhs which only help negate the positive image so assiduously created by the Chief Minister's effort.

The ICC president also felt that the new Government would lend a new dimension to economic growth by facilitating big investments in manufacturing and in the services sectors.
