GNLF to carry forward demand for "Gorkhaland": Santa Chetri

Siliguri, May 12 (UNI) The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) led by Subhash Ghisingh will carry forward the demand for a separate ''Gorkhaland'', GNLF leader Santa Chetri said today.

Ms Chetri, elected for the third time from Kurseong constituency under Darjeeling district, said the sixth schedule status would not dilute the demand for a separate ''Gorkhaland''.

Ms Chetri won by a margin of 33,058 votes against her nearest contestant People's Democratic Front's B M Rai.

''People of the hills have voted us with a dream of having a separate Gorkhaland. The sixth schedule is our first step towards the ultimate goal,'' she said.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) leader Asok Bhattacharya said the demand for Gorkhaland would not be entertained after granting the sixth schedule status to Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council.
