Four persons killed and 20 injured in road accident

Beed, Maharashtra, May 12 (UNI) Four persons including a woman were killed on the spot and 20 others injured when the parked tempo carrying marriage party was hit from behind by a speeding truck at Chakad phata in Ashti tehsil about 110 km from Beed this afternoon.

According to the Jamkhed police, the marriage party was on its way to Beed when the driver was parking his vehicle for a while. At the same time, a speeding truck, which came from behind, dashed against it killing four persons sitting in the back seat of the tempo.

The deceased have been identified as Suryabhan Shahir (45), Mahavir Namdeo Bendge(55),Surekha Machindra Jogdand(40) and Shiraj Jaffer Shaikh (45). Injured have been admitted to the Jamkhed rural hospital.

Police have registered an offence against the truck driver under 304 of Indian Penal Code(IPC). The truck driver was absconding, said the sources.
