Election campaigning for municipal elections gains momentum
Imphal, May 12 (UNI) Election process for Imphal Municipal elections, slated for May 31, has started with the announcement of model code of conduct to be followed by the political parties and the government was in force, official sources said today.
No government machineries should be used for election purposes and ministers shall not make their official visit with electioneering work, it was reminded. Announcement of awards, release of fund, laying of foundation stone, promise to construct roads, effecting transfer and posting were also not allowed.
The political parties have not officially declared their candidates and the three main opposition parties- The Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP), Democratic Revolutionary Peoples' Party (DRPP) and Federal Party of Manipur (FPM)- have decided to field their candidates.
So far 14 persons have filed their nomination papers.
Election will be held for 27 wards of Imphal municipal council.
Meanwhile, the aspiring candidates have already started campaigning.
