'Sonia's win BJP treating Mahajan as role model, 'big tragedy' : Uma
New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) Bharatiya Janashakti Party leader Uma Bharti today said victory of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli and BJP leaders treating Pramod Mahajan as, their 'role model "was ridiculous and tragic." Talking to newspersons here as the poll results were unfolding, Ms Bharti, who was expelled from the BJP, said Ms Gandhi's win in Rae Bareli spelled dangers to national polity and added she would meet the challenge and would do everything possible to ensure that this 'Rae Bareli illusion' will not spread to the entire nation." "I accept the challenge and show Mrs Gandhi that this nation belongs to the people and not one particular family in two years from now", Ms Bharti added.
Referring to names of Mrs Gandhi's children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra and their campaign styles, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said it is a sad sight to see that these people were becoming heroes of this country just by waving their hands without any 'parishram, tyag and tapasya' (effort, sacrifice and labour).
Ms Bharti who actively campaigned for Apna Dal candidate against Mrs Gandhi in Rae Bareli said things would not have been bad if there was a common candidate against the Congress president.
The game was over when three parties put up candidatse belonging to the same caste -- Kushawaha. "The battle can't be won without tapasya," the saffron clad sadhvi said.
Turning to BJP leaders eulogising Pramod Mahajan as the party's role model after his death, Ms Bharti who did not see eye to eye with the later leader within the BJP said statements to this effect by senior leaders points towards the party's 'bankruptcy'. "I regarded him (Mahajan) as an elder brother. He did an excellent job as Parliamentary Affairs Minister saving the day for the NDA and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but for the BJP regarding him as a role model is 'ridiculous and tragic', she remarked. "Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay is a role model for BJP and there are good number of good and dedicated leaders within the party who could be living role models." About byelections in Budhni Assembly constituency that saw the election of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's victory, she said the Chief Minister exploited the Election Commission's order to provide normal power supply to the constituency, to gain votes. Asked if she would be contesting Vidisha Lok Sabha byelections, she said she had given a thought about it.
Moreover the E C was yet to take notify the vacancy.
