Fidayeen arrested, 3 securitymen among 9 killed in J and K
Srinagar, May 11 (UNI) Alert security forces today foiled a fidayeen attack on the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in South Kashmir while elsewhere in the Jammu and Kashmir, three security personnel and equal number of Militants were among nine people killed overnight.
Official said security forces challenged a militant when he was rushing towards the main gate of the JIC at Anantnag, about 55 km from here. However, he could fire only one round before he was overpowered by security forces.
He was being questioned, sources said and added this was the first time security forces arrested a fidayeen alive. One pistol with a magazine and some rounds were recovered from his possession.
The sources said head constable Mohammad Yaseen and constable Nazir Ahmad were on patrol duty when Al-Monsoorain militants shot at and critically wounded them from close range near a post office at Soura, about 10 km from here.
The injured police personnel were immediately shifted to nearby S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where they were declared brought dead.
Later, security forces cordoned off the entire area and conducted search operation to arrest the militants responsible for the incident.
However, militants had managed to escape alongwith the AK rifles of the deceased police constables after the incident, they said.
The Al-Mansoorain militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the incident which came after Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad presided over Unified Headqaurter meeting here last evening.
An official spokesman said an encounter took place between militants and a joint search party of police and security forces at narian Dhok this morning. During the fierce clash, a militant of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and a soldier were killed and another jawan was wounded. A pistol and three hand grenades were recovered from the slain militant.
