Delhi Education Minister announces scholarships for students

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely today announced that scholarships will be awarded to ten meritorious students of government schools, selected on the basis of a Mental Mathematics Quiz competition and CBSE tenth standard results.

Scholarship worth Rs 1,200 per month will be given to each of the five toppers of tenth standard provided they continue to study in schools under the state Directorate.

The Minister said top five winners of the state-level 'Mental Mathematics Quiz competition' held for fifth standard students, will get Rs 500 per month.

The amount of the scholarship will be increased every year by Rs 100 per month per class, till the Senior Secondary Examination, ''as long as the student continues to study mathematics and secures 75 per cent marks in aggregate and 80 per cent marks in mathematics,'' he said.

''The scholarship would continue even if a candidate is a beneficiary of any other scholarship... It will be granted for 10 months each year,'' he added.

He said the CBSE class ten toppers would get the scholarship irrespective of the stream they opt for at the senior secondary level.

The scholarship will be extended to twelfth class only if the the student scores a minimum of 75 per cent marks in aggregate in eleventh, he added.
