Assam: Spectre of hung Assembly looms large

Guwahati, May 11: The Congress bagged the sole seat declared so far and established an early lead, but yet Asom was heading for hung Assembly with the AGP fast catching up the ruling party.

Trend for about 70 seats was available of which the Congress was leading in 38 seats, while the AGP in 20 seats.

Baitahlangso Assembly seat went in favour of the Congress, which they retained by a slender margin of 16 votes.

The future of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hanged in balance even if the Congress was ahead as the trend indicated that it would not reach the magic figure alone or even with his partners and would have to take help of the smaller parties.

The emergence of the AUDF both in lower Asom and Barak valley had surprised both Congress and BJP with the AUDF going to play the most crucial role in the post-poll scenario.
