Biennial election to Legislative Council on June 8

Mumbai, May 11 (UNI) The biennial election to Mahrashtra Legislative Council to fill in four vacancies each from the teachers and graduates constituencies will be held on June 8.

The seats falling vacant are Mumbai Teachers, Mumbai Graduates, Nashik Teachers and Konkan Graduates.

The notification for the election would be issued on May 15, the last date of filing nominations is May 22. The scrutiny of papers would be held on May 23 and the last date of withdrawal is May 25, according to an official release issued here today.

Meanwhile, BJP Vice-President Kirit Somaiya said a delegation of Shiv Sena and BJP will call on the Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon tomorrow seeking change of dates from June 8 to either June 11 or June 18 citing, inconvenience to the voters to cast their votes as the original date is a Thursday. The ideal polling date should be on a Sunday, he added.
