AITUC demands law to protect the interests of housemaids

Mumbai, May 10 (UNI) The Maharashtra unit of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today demanded that a law be enacted to protect the interests of housemaids.

The housemaids should be provided with pension and health insurance benefits, the AITUC has said.

The AITUC today organised a ''morcha'' at the Azad Maidan here in support of their demands. Later, a delegation, led by Maharashtra Rajya Housemaid Organisation president Dr Geeta Mahajan, met Labour Minister Ganesh Naik and submitted a memorandum.

Among the other demands, the AITUC has said that housemaids should get paid leaves and bonus every year.

Mr Naik assured that the Government will bring a bill during the Monsoon Session of the State legislature.
