Sensex crosses 12,600 mark in morning trade

Mumbai, May 10: The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) touched a new high of 12,624.37 points this morning after crossing 12,600 mark in a volatile morning session.

Sensex after opening at 12,546 points as compared to the last close of 12,514 points soon crossed 12,600 mark for the first time in its history.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index was up by 26 points at 3,746 points.

All the sectoral indices were in the green this morning, BSE Metal index was up by 1.42 per cent and BSE Bankex index was up by by 2.03 per cent.

The smallcap and midcap indices were also trading with 1.80 and 1.18 per cent gains.

The top gainers were ICICI Bank, Tata Power, SBI, Larsen&Toubro, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, Wipro, Tata Steel, NTPC and ONGC.

The top losers on the Sensex were HDFC, Reliance, Maruti, Grasim Industries, Tata Motors, Reliance Energy.
