Proper documentation of traditional medicine system must

New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) The health ministry has stressed the need for proper documentation of traditional systems of medicine like Unani which has been proved to be very effective in treatment of skin diseases like Vitiligo, eczema and psoriasis.

Addressing a two day National Seminar on Vitiligo/ Eczema and Psoriasis organised by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Mr Shiv Basant, Joint Secretary in the ministry's department of AYUSH said that studies must be documented in tune with times and the fast moving world so that the system receives public acceptablity.

He lauded the efforts of CCRUM in treatment of skin diseases like Vitiliago which has stigma attached to it. CCRUM has treated about 90,000 patients of vitiligo in its various centres while at CRI Hyderabad 30,000 patients were cured of the disaease.

Stressing the need for synergy, he said that if scientists from different system come together, the interaction would definitely produce good results. He urged the scientists from ICMR to work together with CCRUM to find a solution to this disease and the social problem. On this occasion, he also released a Monograhp on Bars published by CCRUM.

Hakim Anis A Ansari, Advisor (Unani) of the governemnt, said that if unani medicines are used in exact form rather than crude, the efficacy of drugs may increase manifold and reduce the duration of treatment.
