Napolitano elected Italy president-official
ROME, May 10 (Reuters) Italian law makers today elected Giorgio Napolitano, an ex-communist 80-year-old life senator, to be the country's new head of state, lower house speaker Fausto Bertinotti announced to parliament.
Napolitano won 543 votes, 38 more than the absolute majority needed.
