Miscreants steal 105 sovereigns gold

Chennai, May 10 : Unidentified miscreants stole 105 sovereigns of gold ornaments and other valuables from two locked houses at Egmore and Adyar in the city last night, police today said.

At Egmore, an industrialist Jaffer Ahamed went out of town with his family for two days. When they returned this morning they found the front door broken open. The robbers had broken open the steel cupboard stolen 75 sovereigns of gold ornaments.

In an another incident, miscreants broke open the doors of software engineer Giridharan's house and made away with 30 sovereigns of gold and cash amounting to Rs 5000. Mr Giridharan was also out of station along with his family, when the incident took place, police added.

Police registered separate cases and were investigating.
