Haryana sanctions Rs 130 cr for flood control measures
Chandigarh, May 10 (UNI) The Haryana Government has earmarked a sum of Rs 130 crore to the irrigation department for flood control measures.
Disclosing this, here yesterday, Revenue and Irrigation Minister, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, said that a dam will be constructed on river Ghaggar to check the flood waters of the Yamuna. It will also make water available during the lean seasons.
The Minister said that more funds would be provided, if required, to make the state free from floods. Besides, the Bibipur Lake will also be restored.
He said that under the previous government, due to deep and illegal mining, some blocks adjoining the river Yamuna were badly effected during the last flood season. The Irrigation Department had executed the flood protection works in these blcoks to provide additional protection.
The Revenue Department had been asked to replace the old boats with modern ones wherever necessary, he added.
