Eight meet with watery grave in K'taka
Bangalore, May 10 (UNI) Eight people drowned in separate incidents in Karnataka today.
Five youths drowned in river Cauvery at Dodda Gousai Ghat, near Srirangapatna in Mandya district.
Police said they drowned while trying to cross the river.
The victims were identified as Jaffar (21), Rizwan (22), Salim (22), Kaleem (20) and Younus (23).
They had come to Ganjam village yesterday to attend a programme.
The bodies were fished out and sent to the government hospital at Srirangapatna for post mortem.
In another mishap, three people, including two brothers, drowned in a temple tank at Datanal village near Navalgund in Dharwad district.
Police said the trio were engaged in cleaning the statue of goddess Durga devi in the tank in view of the annual temple festival when one of them drowned as he slipped and fell into the water. The other two also met with a watery grave when they jumped in to save him.
The victims were identified as Revappa Pujar (45), his brother Mallappa Pujar (30) and Kanakappa Madar (43).
