Death toll in Monday night squall rises to 15

Chandigarh, May 10 (UNI) The death toll in the squall that hit the North West region on Monday night rose to 15 with seven more casualities being reported from Punjab, offical sources today said.

An offical spokesman today said squall with windspeed of 102 km an hour that hit the region claimed the lives of five persons in Patiala district. One person was killed when the roof of his house collapsed, while his father, mother and daughter sustained injuries.

Another death was reported from Guru Nanak Nagar near Rajpura.

were a person died when a pillar of a factory fell on him. An army sepoy Charanjeet Singh died in Hasanpur village when he fell down the stair at his residence.

In Teragazi village near Samana, one person was killed when lightning struck his house. An unidentified boy died at Danipur village when a brick from the roof of his house fell on him.

Official sources reported two deaths in Ropar district.A migrant labourer was killed when an uprooted tree fell on him outside the railway station in Ropar. A woman was killed when the wall of her house collapsed in Kirti Afghana village.

The reported death toll in the region stood at eight yesterday, with five deaths being reported from Gurdaspur district which was the worst-hit and one from Kapurthala district. Two deaths were reported from Himachal Pradesh.
