Vadodara remains peaceful during 10 hrs curfew relaxation
Vadodara, May 9 (UNI) A ten-hour curfew relaxation given in six police station areas in riot-hit Vadodara city today passed off peacefully.
Polices sources said no incident of violence was reported from any parts of Panigate, Wadi, Raopura, Karelibaug, City and Navapura where curfew was relaxed from 0800 hours to 1800 hours.
Tomorrow, curfew will be relaxed in these areas between 0800 hours and 1900 hours, the sources said.
The authorities yesterday ordered withdrawal of Army in view of the improved law and order situation in the city. According to Additional Commissioner of police V M Parghi, the city had got as many as 21 companies of Gujarat State Reserve Police (SRP) and Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF) to guard in the sensitive areas for maintaining law and order.
The Army and central forces, including eight companies of the Rapid Action Force, were rushed to the city after demolition of a dargah in the Fatehpura area on May 1 which led to widespread communal violence. Six people were killed and over 60 others injured in the violence.
