Two Kashmiri architects selected for int'l fellowship prog
Srinagar, May 9 (UNI) Two young Kashmiri architects have been selected by the France-based International Centre for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) for a fellowship programme in the United States on conservation of heritage.
According to a statement here, Jabeen Manzoor will undergo internship at the Hillier's Conservation Group in Pennsylvania, US, for three months to document the practices of conservation of American Built Heritage.
Abid Khan will study the principles of cultural tourism at the Charleston Heritage Foundation in South Carolina, US, it added.
The two are working with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Jammu and Kashmir chapter, as conservation architects, the statement said.
It is for the first time that ICOMOS has offered two fellowships to India and this year both went to Kashmir as otherwise only one architect was selected from the entire country each year.
The architects have to go through a rigorous process of selection in New Delhi. During the fellowship programme in the US, the two would make presentations on the rich Islamic heritage of Kashmir.
The training will enhance the skills of the architects in the field of conservation of vernacular architecture.
