Special package of DD and AIR services in NE Region

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The Cabinet Commmittee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved a proposal for implementation of Phase-11 of Special Package for the North Eastern Region (including Sikkim) and Island Teritories at a total estimated cost of Rs 400.17 crore.

The breakup of the cost is for AIR Rs 143.32 crore and DD Rs 265.85 crore.

CCEA has also given its ex-post approval for the expenditure incurred during the financial year 2005-06, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told newspersons here.

"Implementation of the package would lead to increased coverage of DD and AIR both in terms of area and population in the North East Region and Island territories and also improve the quality of programmes", he said.

He said this will help cater to the information and entertainment needs of the ligusitically and culturally rich and diverse region.

The proposal for Phase-11 of the Special Package envisages not only increasing coverage of DD and AIR, both in terms of area and population, but also improving the quality of programmes.
