Sensex recovers losses, trades 33 pts up at 12,495
Mumbai, May 9 (UNI) After a volatile morning session with a new high of 12,544.61 points, the BSE Sensex played a see-saw game in the afternoon by first dipping to a low of 12,356 and then regaining the losses to jump up to 12,495.87 points.
The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) was trading up by 33 points at 12,495.87, at 1335 hrs.
Earlier, the benchmark index of the BSE touched a new high of 12,544.61 points this morning after crossing the whopping 12,500 mark for the first time in a volatile opening session.
But, thereafter, it entered a volatile phase, slipping to a low of 12,356 points because yesterday's foreign fund outflow showed the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) selling in F&O (Futures&Options) trade worth Rs 540 crores.
In the morning, after opening at 12,488 points, as compared to the last close of 12,462 points.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index was up by seven points at 3,700 points.
ONGC crossed Rs two lakh crore market capitalisation for the first time as it traded at Rs 1,411 with a gain of 2.33 per cent or Rs 32.15.
All the sectoral indices were flat, with the BSE FMCG index showing profit booking at the maximum with losses of 0.77 per cent while the auto index was up by 0.88 per cent.
The smallcap and midcap indices were up by 0.90 and 0.46 per cent, respectively.
The top losers on the Sensex were - Dr Reddy's Lab, Bharti Tele, Hindustan Lever, HDFC Bank, ITC, Hindalco, NTPC, Maruti, Wipro and BHEL.
The top gainers were - ONGC, Satyam Computers, Reliance Energy, HDFC, Bajaj Auto, Gujarat Ambuja, Hero Honda, TCS and Larsen&Toubro.
