Bhopal, May 9 : The Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation Ltd's product 'Sanchi' has come under the scanner following complaints of less milk being packed than the prescribed weight.

The complaints come amid 'Sanchi' facing competition from Amul, which launched its milk products in the state recently.

Bhopal Dughda Sangh (BDS) General Manager A K Nigam told UNI that the quantity of milk in the packet could be more or less due to technical reasons but the discrepancy could not be more than 10 gm.

In very few cases, packets would weigh around 100 gm less. Under such circumstances, the BDS provided the concerned person Rs 100 per packet besides changing the packet.

Pointing out that 1.60 lakh litre milk was sold every day by the BDS and the sale had been constantly rising since the past few years, he said several machines were used to prepare the packets with one machine churning out 5,000 packets in one hour.

Meanwhile, some 500 gm 'Sanchi' packets, with their weight being less by more than 100 gm, had been returned by customers to shopkeepers concerned.

Regarding the complaints, Mr Nigam said the plant packed milk with the use of modern equipment. However, the quantity of milk deviated sometimes because of fluctuation in voltage.

Meanwhile, an atmosphere of competition has been created with the launch of Amul milk products.

However, Amul junior sales executive Sunil Sharma denied competition saying Amul stressed on use of packed milk instead of loose milk.

Amul was selling 32,000 litres milk in the state capital at present and aimed at increasing the sale to 50,000 litres in the next two months.

Mr Sharma said four products of Amul were available in the market at present with their price varying between Rs 13-18.
