Over 150 hospitalised after eating egg biryani

Theni, Tamil Nadu, May 8 : Over 150 people, including children and polling agents, were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning after taking egg biriyani reportedly provided by the Congress candidate for Theni Assembly constituency N R D Rajkumar here today.

According to official sources, the affected have been admitted to various hospitals, including the Theni Government Medical College Hospital.

The incident came to light when some of the polling staff and agents of candidates at Oonjampatti village on the outskirts of the town vomitted and later fainted.

Children and relatives of of the polling agents were among those diagnosed for food poisoning. Similar incidents were also reported from nearby areas of Kottur, Seelaiyampatti and Allinagaram in the town.

Sources said all the affected were supplied egg biriyani, cooked at a marriage hall adjoining Rajkumar's house.

District Health Department Assistant Director Dr Kulandaisamy visited the affected at the hospitals.
