Bangalore, May 9 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Mallikarjuna Kharge today said the party would urge the Centre to take action against the State Government for having failed to maintain law and order.

Speaking at the inaugural of a training programme for district and taluk panchayat elected representatives here, he alleged that incidents of riots, murders and shootouts were on the rise after the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government assumed power.

Mr Kharge demanded that the Government provide compensation to the families of those killed in police firing during the funeral of matinee idol Rajkumar. He set a deadline of one week and warned of an agitation if the demand was not met by then.

Earlier, Union Minister Oscar Fernandes inaugurated the programme and detailed those gathered about the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
